Lookback in Anger
How I stopped worrying and started talking to myself
It has been confusing sight for anyone coming to the 3rd floor of Vimcar office - me talking to myself while holding a mobile up. Having to explain what I'm doing is fast becoming a chore, but it has definitely been worth it.
No, I haven't gone insane. I just got a great new PM / QA tool - Lookback.io. The tool started off at Spotify an internal tool for recording user sessions for native mobile apps - combining screen capture with front-facing camera. The project was spun out and raised $2.2 million last year.
Their dev-driven approach is paying off. Lookback is starting to pop up in more and more places. For example, Marvel, my favourite prototyping app, is using it to enable basic user testing of their prototypes.
I use it primarily as a way to document bugs. I've been using Reflector for that before. Tighter integration with Lookback works better and front-face camera & voice adds that much more of a context. So much so that I've heard one of our engineers requesting "Lookback it" when I've described a bug.
It's also a great way to troll your colleagues. Particularly if you are working with a distributed team. Annoying developers with Terry Tibbs-style bug reporting always hits the spot!
